Abstract:
In recent years, one of teaching approaches that contribute to the continuous development of students’ skills and abilities in the curriculum is project-based education (PBE). In the PBE, students create projects to solve problems related to daily life by using the knowledge, skills and experiences they have gained. Students can do their project work within the scope of the course as well as outside the classroom at school or outside the school. It can be through that the students of the regional boarding secondary school (RBSS) stay together with their teachers for longer time than the students in other schools, and they can spend their free time more productively by making projects. However, the project preparation process includes a long-term process. For this reason, it is through that it is necessary to determine whether RBSS students are willing to receive project based education (RPBE) before they can produce projects. Based on this idea, this research was conducted to find answers to the questions of whether there is a significant difference in RPBE requests of RBSS students’ in terms of some variables, and if there is a difference, why it arises. Cross-sectional survey model was used in this research. The participants of this study were 123 students consisting from fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades at RBSS. The data were from the interview form and semi-structured interviews with students from all classes who participated in the research voluntarily. Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used in the analysis of the data. In the research, the Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient used for two or more measured substances was used and 0.836 was found. According to the findings obtained, it can be said that the students are willing to RPBE. It was determined that while there was a significant difference between students’ willingness to PPBE according to their level of liking the science course, there was no significant difference according to other variables. It is recommended that the project education to be given within the scope of PTE should be suitable for level of the students and should be prepared in a way that will meet needs and curiosity.
